Health & Fitness Hub Trainer & Biokineticist

Gino Alho

My Story

Ever since I was young, I have always been physically active and took part in most sports such as rugby, cricket, golf, Judo and hockey. The sport I really excelled in was Judo where I went on to compete in numerous national championships and even became a South African Champion.

Judo being an exceptionally physical sport, it obviously came with many injuries with my most serious ones including a dislocated shoulder and broken elbow. Moments in my life that fed my hunger to get into the field of exercise therapy. Injuries that still give me hassles to this day and leave me to question whether I had received the right guidance and rehabilitation.

The process to becoming a strength and conditioning coach and a qualified Biokineticist has been a long but very fulfilling one. I began my journey all the way back in 2012 where my dream was always to work with athletes and get them into tip top shape to compete at the highest level. My passion gradually transitioned as I qualified with a bachelors degree in Sports Science at the University of Pretoria with Cum laude. I had discovered that I could still work with athletes but with the use of Exercise Therapy in Biokinetics in order to get injured athletes back to competing.

This led to me getting my Honours degree in Biokinetics at the University of Pretoria with cum laude. I have always been amazed with the human body and its complexity. I have developed a particular liking in working with orthopaedic injuries or conditions (i.e. muscles, tendons, joints, bones). Treating patients is fascinating as each person is unique and this drives me to find the root cause of the problem. My goal is to  help each client/patient to achieve their full potential in regard to health and fitness whilst reducing their risk of injury/re-injury.

I have always been a strength exercise/resistance training exercise enthusiast. I believe that this type of exercise is essential in every persons programme to bullet proof your entire body. Over the past 5 years I have become particularly skilled with calisthenics/body weight strength exercise.

I previously worked in Biokinetics at the Sports, Medicine and Lifestyle Institute (SEMLI) and High Performance Centre (HPC) at the University of Pretoria. This provided me with significant work experience and knowledge in working with a broad spectrum of people. I had the opportunity to provide Biokinetics exercise therapy for amputees all the way to high performance Olympic athletes.

The Health & Fitness Hub was established to provide a holistic approach to your health and fitness. This is achieved through providing individualized exercise training and therapy to each unique person.
