Ever since I was young, I have always been physically active. I took part in most sports such as rugby, cricket, golf, Judo and hockey. The sport I really excelled in was Judo. Over the years I went on to compete in numerous national championships and even became a South African Champion.
Judo being an exceptionally physical sport, it obviously came with many injuries. Consequently my most serious ones including a dislocated shoulder and broken elbow. As a result these moments in my life fed my hunger to get into the field of exercise therapy. Injuries that still give me hassles to this day. Subsequently I question whether I had received the right guidance and rehabilitation.
The process to becoming a strength and conditioning coach and qualified Biokineticist has been long but very fulfilling. I began my journey all the way back in 2012 where my dream was always to work with athletes. The goal was to get athletes into tip top shape to compete at the highest level.
However, my passion gradually changed as I qualified with a bachelors degree in sports science. This was achieved with cum laude at the University of Pretoria. As a result I had found that I could still work with athletes but with the use of exercise therapy. Above all, Biokinetics was the profession where I could get injured athletes back to competing.
Therefore, following my undergraduate degree I went on to get my Honours degree in Biokinetics with cum laude. I have always been amazed with the human body and how complex it is. So I developed a particular liking to working with orthopedic injuries or conditions (i.e. muscles, tendons, joints, bones).
Treating patients is fascinating as each person is unique and this drives me to find the root cause of the problem. My goal is to help each client/patient to achieve their full potential in regard to health and fitness. In addition, I strive to reduce the risk of injury/re-injury.
Strength training has always been something that I have been enthusiastic about. This type of exercise is key in every persons programme to bullet proof the entire body. Over the past 5 years I have become particularly skilled with calisthenics/body weight strength exercise.
I previously worked in Biokinetics at the Sports, Exercise Medicine and Lifestyle Institute (SEMLI) at the University of Pretoria. This provided me with significant work experience and knowledge in working with a wide variety of people. I had the opportunity to provide Biokinetics exercise therapy for amputees all the way to high performance Olympic athletes.
The Health & Fitness Hub was established to provide a holistic approach to your health and fitness. This is achieved through providing individualized exercise training and therapy to each unique person.
